You now what I found out today? The first designer watches were actually designed for women. Shortly after the American Civil War, ladies “bracelet watches” were marketed and sold. It wasn’t until 1904 that aviator Alberto Santos-Bumont had a wrist watch designed for him. Up to that point, men were stuck with pocket-watches. Since then, the market has grown and there are all kinds of mens gold watches and designer watches available.

In my research, I came across the term “mens jewelry.” I’m not sure I like that term – it kind of sounds a little bit sissy to me. Whatever. The other night when I was looking at watches with my dad – I did notice how some of the different watches combined manly elegance with rugged durability. If that makes it jewelry, then I guess you can call it that. As far as I’m concerned – it’s still just a watch for men.

My mom loves jewelry. I don’t want to give you the wrong impression of her. She doesn’t go overboard with jewelry, but I know her – she likes “bling.”

Dad, on the other hand – well, he wears his wedding band and that’s about it. So when he wants to dress up nice to take mom out on a date, he usually grabs one of his designer watches. I think he does it because mom likes it.

I have an uncle who’s retired. The company he worked for would give out mens gold watches to employees who’d worked there for 40 years. And it really is a cool looking watch. Although 40 years seems like a long time to wait for a watch. I guess that’s something they used to do back in the “good old day.” Dad says it’s not very common these days.

So, if I want to get my own mens gold watch – I’ll have to earn some money and save up for one. I’m okay with that…

In the meantime, I’m going to continue learning more about designer watches. Mostly because I want one someday – and I want to make a good decision when the time comes.
